Here are 5 tips on how to find cheap flights.
Now let’s get into the nitty-gritty of this post, because airline tickets can be expensive if you do not plan or know where to look.
1. Start Researching for Flight 6-12 Months Before Your Trip
Begin planning for your travels as early as possible, even up to a year before.
Be as flexible with flights dates and times and even what month you can travel.
2. Search for One Way Flights for a Cheaper Fare Each Way.
Many times, I purchase two one-way flights. Why? Because we may arrive in one city and depart from another city to return home.
3. Search For Cheaper Flights From Cities Near You
Research flights that depart from any city you can drive to or fly to inexpensively…that may have a cheaper to your final destination
For example: If you live in the Philadelphia area you should look at one-way and round-trip flight prices that depart from: Philadelphia, New York, New Jersey, Baltimore (BWI), even Washington, DC (Reagan or Dulles)
4. Take Advantage of Flights with Long Stopover Programs
I seek out flights with long layovers or flights that offers a 1 to 7 day “Stopover” at no extra charge, before you get to your final destination.
Stopovers allow you to visit another city or another country for a day or two or longer, if you wish for no extra flight costs. Of course, you will have to plan your budget for extra accommodations, sight seeing, etc.
Plan a Stopover On Your Next Trip Abroad
Flying Icelandair from Boston to 24 European Destinations will give you the “option” of a Stopover in Iceland for a minimum of one day, but you can do a Stopover up to 7 days at no extra cost. Click Here: to see a video of Iceland’s Stopover Program.
TAP Air Portugal — Boston USA to London, may also have a 39-hour layover in Portugal before getting to your final destination.

5. Research Budget (Low Cost) Airlines For Flights
So many people have told me that they, nor their spouse will ever fly on Budget airlines. I was a bit surprised! Because I love the cheap price charged on budget airlines, (low-cost airlines) especially when abroad.
However, keep in mind, the major airline search engines are usually not linked to the Budget Airlines.
Below is a list of Budget Airlines around the World. I have flown on many of them without a problem.
These low-cost airlines do not offer the free perks of the larger airlines. Free beverages, snacks, extra legroom (you will pay for these conveniences).
Sometimes my flight is so cheap, I don’t mind paying for my lunchbox or beverage; or I will bring my own snacks.

Your mention of Iceland made me check out a couple of your airlines that offer stopovers. Another friend told us about https://airwander.com/. We have not tried this to get cheaper flights before, but we have booked layovers in a few cities before. Thanks for mentioning airlines that offer stopover programs.

Thank you Shelly. Yes, stopovers have allowed me to visit countries for no additional airfare!
Also, you were my first comment on my new blog. Thanks Again!!
