Ghana – The Gold Coast
When I told a few friends I was thinking about my next trip to Ghana, surprisingly, I received inquisitive looks and the next question was “Why Ghana?”
I then realized when people think of visiting Africa for a couple of weeks, they think of looking for the best safari to seek out the Big 5 animals or sleeping overnight in a tent to be able to watch the wildebeest migrate across the Serengeti.
When researching travel destinations in Africa, you will see magazines and tourist boards advertising South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Egypt & Morocco.
Although, I too have love for these destinations, I have tried to step out of the myriad of Africa’s destination myths and travel to Ghana, Mozambique and Uganda, along with a few others.
As a matter of fact, a few people told me they were just too afraid to travel to Africa or anywhere outside of the USA. Ghana being one of the safest and most stable of the African countries, I knew in my heart, the time was now to travel to the motherland of my people.
