Where is Mozambique
Mozambique is nestled between South Africa and Tanzania on the southeast coast of the African continent, and borders with Zambia, Malawi and Zimbabwe on the western side.
Although in close proximity to South Africa, Mozambique receives far fewer tourists than its neighbor to the south.
However, if you love seafood, wildlife, history and the beach scene, Mozambique is the place to discover.
Being colonized in the by the Portuguese, the Mozambiquan people speak Portuguese and did not get their independence until 1975; as most African nations were independent in the early 60s.
And from 1977-1992, the country of Mozambique had a long and brutal civil war that ravaged their country.
As you travel within Mozambique, you will see that since 1992, there are still lingering affects of the 15-year civil war; along with today that struggles with the coronavirus pandemic and other economic woes in the country.
However, if you are inclined to experience the Mozambique’s natural environment, beautiful beaches, wildlife and cultural heritage, this destination may be for you.
Indian Ocean Beaches

Mozambique was my first trip to the continent of Africa, and I was mainly in the capital of Maputo. After a short stint in South Africa for a few days, Mozambique thrust me into the realm of what my vision was of true Africa.
Although, I love the ocean, the heat, and the sand, I am not a beach enthusiast. I love the hustle and bustle of beach areas, but only for a day or two, then I’m ready to hang out with the locals.
In Maputo, the beaches were somewhat crowded on the weekends. During the week, the Beach in Maputo known as Costa do Sol was where I visited was not croweded, locals selling their wares.
However, this is just one beach, there are many beautiful beach areas, popular and off the beaten path.
